They saved it for late! The Leones del Escogido blanked the Toros del Este 2-0 at Estadio Quisqueya Juan Marichal in a pitchers' duel that wasn't decided until the 8th. Evan Grills was a brick wall for the Toros: 6.0 innings, no earned runs, 3 strikeouts and not a single walk. On the other side, Radhames Liz answered with 4.0 scoreless frames and 2 strikeouts. The Toros actually outhit Escogido 4 to 2, with Juan Brito going 2-4 with a double.
Then came the bottom of the 8th. Jonathan Guzmán lined a single to right that brought John Gil home, and the zero finally fell! Right after, Vidal Bruján laid down a sacrifice bunt, pitcher Emailin Montilla booted it, and Michael De La Cruz came around to score. Alex Colomé got the win, Phillips Valdez took the loss, and Robinson Martínez slammed the door for the save. Escogido has now won 2 straight and leads the season series 1-0.
